Who can apply?

Anyone with an awesome project, proposal, purpose, or plan can apply. You can apply as an individual, group, informal collective, community organization, or other project team.

The project should:

  • Benefit people in Kitchener-Waterloo or a nearby eligible community.
  • Have a positive community impact.
  • Be creative, practical, experimental, joyful, useful, or otherwise awesome.
  • Explain clearly how the $1,500 will help make the project happen.

Nearby eligible communities include Cambridge, St. Jacobs, Ayr, and similar communities.

How the process works

Step 1: Submit your application

Complete the official Awesome Foundation application form. You will be asked for your name, email, project title, project description, how you will use the money, a little about yourself, and optional project images.

Step 2: Wait for the invitation

The Trustees review applications and invite selected applicants to Pitch Night. We will contact applicants using the information provided in the application.

Step 3: Give your five-minute pitch

Each selected person or group has five minutes to explain the project, followed by a brief Q&A with the Trustees.

Step 4: Trustees choose a winner

After the pitches, the Trustees discuss the ideas and select a winning project.

Step 5: Make it happen

The winner receives $1,500 with no strings attached.

What should I include in my pitch?

Your pitch should answer three practical questions:

  1. How will your project benefit the community?
  2. How will you use the $1,500?
  3. When and where will the project happen?

Most importantly, bring your passion for the project. You do not need to be a professional presenter. This is not a job interview; the Trustees and audience want to understand what you are trying to make happen.

Can I attend Pitch Night if I am not pitching?

Yes. Community members are welcome to attend and listen, meet the Trustees, and connect with applicants and other people who care about local projects.

Can I apply again?

Yes. There is no limit to how many times you can pitch. You are welcome to apply again with an improved pitch or a new project.
